Pittsburgh Spotlight: Apple N' Arts Festival

Hey all and welcome back to our blog!

Sorry for the radio silence on this end, our Fall semester is in full swing around now and we have been super busy with exams and papers that we haven't had a chance to ourselves. Due to the amount of work we've been dealing with, we are temporarily going to be posting about Pittsburgh related things and lifestyle-type posts all while keeping up with our photography. But don't fret, soon we will be back to our travels.

To kick off the Fall season, we decided to take a short trip outside the city of Pittsburgh to Delmont, PA (Cass' hometown and close to Stacey's) and we attended the annual Apple N' Arts Festival. At a brisk temperature of 45 degrees, we set out early in the morning with a pleasant addition to our usual trio, our very good friend Ryan. First we stopped at Sheetz to get some warm, greasy food to give us some energy after a late night. Nothing better than a biscuit sandwich and coffee to warm you up on a rainy Saturday morning. Along the way, we stopped to see Stacey's parents and Cass' mom to say hi and pick up some Halloween decorations. We made our way to a secret parking spot to avoid the chaos of the festival parking and headed up the hill to Shields' Farm where the festival is held annually.

We spent the afternoon painting ceramic pumpkins, drinking hot cider with cinnamon sticks (yum!) and picking apples from what seemed like a million different kinds. We explored many of the tents that were showcasing their products as well as the petting zoo, where a rambunctious donkey was kicking up all kinds of fuss. Stacey was particularly overjoyed at the petting zoo, with all the goats and the llama. As tired as we were, we felt like we could take over the world in our fall outfits and scarves. Eventually, after the cold winds beat us up enough, we made our way to the mountains to Seven Springs to Autumnfest.

Unfortunately, we spent so much time at the Apple N' Arts Festival that we arrived to Seven Springs at the tail end of Autumnfest and were unable to enjoy much as it was quite chilly outside. After walking around the resort for a while and contemplating riding the lift to the top of the mountain (which wasn't even visible because of the fog), we decided to make the trek back to Pittsburgh.

It was a small adventure but it was perfect to kick off our favorite season. Check out some more of the pictures from the day below.
