Lake Erie by Day

We all work a lot and it's hard to find time to get together and do something more than just watching Netflix and eating pizza. About a month ago, we all decided we needed a good break from the chaos of work and Pittsburgh.

On a bit of a whim (and because of a last minute doctor's appointment), we got up early that morning and drove about two hours up to Presque Isle State Park in Erie, PA and enjoyed a day on the water.

It was an incredibly beautiful day--in fact, we all got (extremely) bad sunburns. We all got to lay in the sun for a while, eat our subs from Sheetz, discuss tattoo ideas and quotes, and try (and fail) to go into the water (except for Cassandra, the only brave one); it really was a bonding experience for the three of us. After a few hours on the beach, and being eyed by multiple seagulls, we decided to get in the car and drive around the roughly six mile peninsula. We came across some pretty interesting house boats and fishing areas that seemed a bit dangerous, and a lighthouse that was gorgeous but slippery if you got to close to the edge.

We made our way to downtown Erie and went down to the lakefront area for a bit just to hang out. Close to Erie's convention center, they had this huge lighthouse with docks and we decided to look around and decide what our next step of the afternoon would be. Debating between going back to Pittsburgh (bore) and driving over to Cleveland, OH (seemed like a hike). Trailing into other conversations like we always do when we have to make a decision (we're the worst at that), our phones were dying and we were not going back home, so we made our second snap decision of the day.

To read about the second half of this day, and for a whole new set of pictures taken by yours truly, check in again for the next post later this week. If you scroll down, you'll see some of the pictures we took at Presque Isle and the surrounding area.

We definitely recommend visiting Presque Isle if you get the chance. It's truly beautiful and Lake Erie is so large that it really feels like a beach without the added expense. And please don't forget to check back for part II of our crazy adventure.

With much love and appreciation,
